Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos

Hi,
I have a rare 17' 1977 Glasspar Boat.
From what I have learned Glasspar and Boston Whaler made a deal that only lasted two years to allow Glasspar to use/copy a Whaler hull.

This boat is supposed to be a clone/copy of a Boston Whaler Montauk Hull.
I am in the San Diego area and have been restoring this boat, it is a great looking boat that rides beautifully with a very solid hull. I guess these are really rare, I have never seen one like it before.

In regards to getting info on this boat that is as far as I could get on this Glasspar.

Anyone that knows even something about these boats or with any additional information I would really love to hear it. I have spent days trying to research and it seems like nobody knew these boats existed??

Eddie,

To my knowledge Whaler and Glasspar never had any deal to use or splash the design of any of Whaler's hulls. From the picture your hull has a smirk and tri hull design which Whalers had but, it does not look like a Montauk of that year, nor is it a Whaler. If it was copied, cloned, or similated it was done on Glasspar's own accord without Whaler which, some manufactures did in the 70's.

The only Non-Whaler hull ever built I know of to have a Whaler name on it was the 22' Hi-Liner cuddy (sold as a Yankee Voyager by Whaler).

Where have you found proof Whaler and Glasspar had this agreement?

You might try "fiberglassics.com". There is a pool of knowledge there about most of the fiberglass manufacturers. Maybe they can help.

Ray Hunt designed the 13 ft. Whaler, He also designed the Hi-Liner, which was a copy of a Bertram he also designed, looked nothing like a whaler. Check to see if Hunt had anything to do with that Glasspar design. If he did, that may be your tie. Glasspar was a big name back in the day.
