Ok...the other post made me think about what I was looking for.
What was on the boat 35 years ago is what I want now. This was a ladder that went over the gunnels and was 3 or 4 rungs. What makes this ladder different is the way it folded. If one can picture holding the ladder upright in their hands, raising one side and lowering the other, thats how it folded. This allowed the ladder to be stored in very narrow places. Essentualy it was the size of a water ski when it was folded.
Make sense? Anybody see one like this?

David,
Yes, (kind of) my father put one on our Guardian. It folds up and stores nicely under the gunwales. He found it at west marine. This one however has a permanent mount on the transom and does not hang over the side
