Can anybody tell me if a 8 hp yamaha 4 stroke at 80 lbs. is to heavy for a 1984 17' Montauk with a 90 on the back

If memory serves me correctly, the max rated weight for the classic hull was 410 pounds according to some of the brochures I've seen. I know I had a 4-stroke 5 hp merc with a 1993 90hp Evinrude on my last whaler, a classic 17' hull without any problems.

I have a 84 Montauk with a Johnson 90 . I have bolted an 4 stroke Johnson 8 hp kicker on the transom. I have my oiler in the console and the battery in the port stern. The boat sits fine and the splash well drains are just above the water line at rest without me in the boat.
I moved the battery into the console this winter and added a CMC (4.5" 2 piece manual) plate to raise the engine and move it back. This modification I do not like.
The water is now 2" inches higher at rest in the stern and into the splash well without me in the boat.
I'm taking it off and raising the engine on the transom.
The benefit is I ran great witout my Doel Fins and no porpoising.
