The wife bought me a marine radio and antenna. I have a 1974 montauk. Does annybody have and good ideas for were to mount the antenna? It appears a previous owner mounted it on the front of the center counsol. This seems close to the radio and the operator. I thought that the bow is a good spot but there is not a good way i can see to get the wire up there. Thanks joe

I mounted my 8' stick on the starboard side rear corner w/ a nylon ratchet adjustment lever. I also made sure that I bought the "solid core copper" fiberglass whip ant. so that when it's folded "down" and gets stepped on by boarding passengers, it does'nt break/split. After many ant. Idea's, and trials, this seems to be the only way for me to survive broken antenna's all summer long. also don't put the pressure washer to glass whip antenna's. I found out the hard way (ouch) glass splinters !

On my Montauk I used an ss ratchet rail mount and attached it to the console grab rail.

You could run the wire through the rigging tunnel to the stern and mount it in one of the rear corners.

We have always had ours mounted to the grab rail on the console. Here are some images.

With a small center console boat that is used for fishing, it just makes sense to me to mount the antenna on the center console.

I used a 3 foot Shakespeare antenna mounted on the console grab rail on my Whalers. It may not give you the best distance if you are going far out in the ocean though.
