I came across a 1993 Mercury 20 Horsepower Mercury with a 20" shaft, an was wondering if it would work on my 11' whaler sport. The only issues I could think of would have to do with increased drag and shallow water operation. Would there be any other issues I should be aware of? The motor itself is in great condition.

I would pass on that longshaft motor, or else I would install a jackplate. A stationary one is about $100, but that would probably negate the good deal on the engine. There are more issues other than more drag and less ground clearance. There is the problem of the prop torque being at a lower position which will raise your bow when on plane, and could also effect steering. I am not an engineer, so I can`t really explain it but its there.
