The weight works out but can u overpower by 10hp on a 16 ?

I think weight is the only consideration. An additional 10 hp won`t mean anything. As far as fuel consumption, you probably won`t burn more fuel either. At one time i ran twin 115s on an Aquasport, and burned less fuel than a single 225. I say always go with twins, if you already have them or the money to buy them. the advantages outweigh the few disadvantages. Also you`ll love docking a twin engine boat. You do it with the throttles, and never touch the steering wheel.:D

Jimmy,

The 16' hulls are rated at 100hp so you would not be overpowering according to the capacity plate. I know of two guys here in Michigan with both with twin powered Nausets. One has a pair of early 70's 50hp Johnsons and the other has a pair of early 90's 40hp Johnsons.

BTW here is an 16 with twin 4 strokes.

I think that boat might be a tad stern heavy, I`d like to see a pic of the Whaler with the twin early `70`s 50 hp OMCs.

The weight goes from 289 to 360. A 4 stroke 90 weighs about that. Just imagine what those 2 4 strokes weigh on the pics above ! That got to be at least 400 pounds !

360 is nothing....over 400 can get a tad stern heavy. I have twin 4.5's on a Squall and she handles the weight fine.B)

I'm sure somewhere it's posted, but the transom weight at one time was listed at 410#'s for the 17' hull...

I've seen a few pictures of montauks with twins, always a wonderful sight! :)

According to Yamaha's site each of those 40's weigh in at 183 lbs. So 366 lbs on motor total. Yamaha's 90 4S motor itself weighs 369 lbs so, the twin 40's are 3 lbs lighter total.
