Decided to dewinterize the boat and head out on the Chesapeake for some early Striper catch and release fishing. My friend Billy and my girlfriends son, Cory went along and we had the boat in the water by 7:45am. It was pretty cold and forecast was decent. A couple other friends who were suppose to go didn't show up. We had lines in the water around 8:15am trolling south of Thomas Point light outside of Annapolis...An hour later fish on!!

A nice 34" Striper.

A little while later another nice fish.

We finished the morning with a nice 40" Striper...Cory reeled in all the fish.

Back at the ramp by 12noon...Looking forward to the season opening on April 19th. We did see 6-7 other boats out there fishing. My buddy Rick fished the entire day and caught 8.

Mike,
Nice looking fish. I saw one person going out of the creek this morning and they were back by noon. Pretty chilly on land, down right cold on the water.

Homey,
Wished I'd known, I would have met you out there. Had planned on going out and try and dial in the new 300 ... plus make sure all the rods are dialed in also. Michael had soccer games with the kids, thus couldn't go until late afternoon. To cold for the wife, so started doing yard work, by 2 O'clock I was to tired to throw the 22' over. It was cold all day, not to enticing to go out.
Did you use planner boards? Nice looking fish.
What your plans for next weekend ... depending on the weather, I plan to go out.... maybe You and Michael can join me, check out the new motor and give me expert advice on how to catch the big ones ... I'm off Friday.
Still need to check out you modifications ... happy the cuddy is gone?
Keep in touch,
Tom

Mike -
Looks like a great day.
If you don't mind, I suggest you guys get some good gear, you guys look really cold!!!!:D A Carhartt insulated worksuit is excellent for thermal warmth and wind protection. If really cold, I wear my PDF inside to add loft.
Thanks for the photos. Man, those are nice looking fish! Love the boat too ;)

CBO,
It was very cold and well worth the trip even for just a couple hours. I will get one of those Carhartt thermal suits you mentioned for sure, thanks!
GTL,
No planer boards or outriggers this trip..I took my boards and found they did not work properly after I modified them so, I didn't use them. I'll probably stick with my outriggers this year, they are easy to use and make cleaning the lures much easier after an hour of trolling. The boards are nice when dialed in but when its time to check and clean lures they are alittle bit of a pain when compared to outriggers...I'm off this saturday and sunday hopefully I can get out on the water again on one of those days, I'll give you a call later in the week.
Thanks for the comments.

Mike,
Nice fish(s). Brought the new 305 up the Bay this weekend – it was a bit rough, but I tell you those weather curtains have already paid for themselves. We spent Friday night at Solomon’s (disappointed the Tiki Bar wasn’t open yet – but I did have Rockfish “bites” at Solomon’s Pier ) and made the rest of the trip to Kent Island on Saturday. The whole trip, we saw only 2 sailboats. As soon as we hit Bloody Point saw 5 boats fishing/ drifting the east channel edge. Wife wanted to throw a few lines out, but didn’t have them with me. Took the kids for a run around the island on Sunday – few boats around the bridge and a couple back at Bloody Point. Hope to get out this Sat and/or Sun (although they are calling for t-storms on Sat). Let me know if you head out.

Homey,
Any sea-lice on those Cows???
You can use my planner boards as a template if you need some new ones.....
Got the boat back on Saturday, cover looks great. Stop by and check it out (if I'm not there just go behind the fence and check her out).
Shall we have Whaler C&R mini-tournment this weekend!!!!!! South part of Bay Bridge to the Southern Tip of Popular Island, with a Shotgun Start!!!!!!:D:D

jollyrog305,
I have curtains on my center console which do help. I plan to add wings on the sides next year which will pretty much enclose the console area.
msl,
I didn't see any lice but I didn't look that closely. I was steering and taking photos. I think Billy may have noticed some. Two were full of roe and hadn't released yet so, I guess they are still coming up the bay. Thanks for the offer on the boards mine are a simple fix, I'll fix eventually. I'll stop by later this week after work to check out the cover.
I thought we were having a C&R mini-tournament till the 19th, I'm up 3 you 0. LOL :D

If that is the case, you better start heading out more....... I might have to give you a three day head start, we are going to have to triple your C&R on Sunday:D:D
