Does anyone know how many wholes are on the gas tank to accommodate a mechanical gas gauge?
Thank you!

Are you asking if there is more than one spot already in the tank to install a gauge?

NO, not an additional hole for the gas gauge. I want to go back to the original mecahnical gas gauge with the see through deck plate in the floor as oppose to an electrical gas gauge on the console. I feell the mechaical works better.
I had a new tank built by Florida Marine in October of 2006. The mechanical gauge got pitched with the old tank when the new tank was fabricated. I didn't care much at the time because I was going to install a new gauge on the console. What a mistake. It worked a couple , three times and then worked on and off for about two months until it doesn't work at all. Make sense?

Take a look at the wire connections on the sender on top of the tank. From the symptoms you report (interminant) You could have a loose connection. Check the ground connection too.. If everything is okay on the sender, check the wires on the back of the gauge.
I have had the opposite experience with gas gauges. :o

Thanks CBO
I'll check on all you mention this weekend when I trek down to the Keys. Hope your suggestions resolves my issue with the gas gauge because I can't seem to find a mechanical gauge. I'll let you know the results just as soon as I test.
Kind Regards,

The new West Marine catalog has a gauge that at least LOOKS exactly like the OEM one. No idea if it's actually the same or not, but it's clearly the same concept.

Thanks guys, for all the good advice.
I did have a mechanic look at it and he found a wire loose. I took it out this past weekend and it worked for a little while and then conked out. I'll check and tighten the wires one more time.If that doesn't fix the problem, then I'll be forced to purchase a mechanical gauge from e-components and a clear deck plate from twin cities marine.
I'll also check the gauge West Marine carries.
Thanks again,
