Guys,
I'd heard that a 140 Suzuki was a good choice, but read with interest about not going with less than 200 on the later Outrage 22.
Are the two boats different enough to make both ideas good?
Thanks, Ken

I own a Banana 21 also, 1600lbs ,yours is 1600lbs also, the 1979 v-22 1950lbs,1980 21 Outrage 2050lbs. The old boats are light, I would guess the 140 would see mid 40's and great fuel economy. Mine is powered by a 150 Optimax ,the thing flies ! Sees 6 miles per gallon at cruise ! Video by Kurt Gett from his Ribside

The 21 Banana hulled Outrage and the classic 22 Outrage are two totally different boats. The classic 22 weighs a lot more than the 21 and the 22 also has a lot greater of a deadrise to the hull. While a greater deadrise increases ride quality it also takes more power to put the boat on plane and keep it running on plane.

The 140 Suzuki would be a great motor for the 21 I think. Quite, smooth, light on the fuel, and pretty darn cheap to purchase all things considered.

we had a 21' 1972 outrage growing up on long island sound. i'm kinda surprised to see the weight at 1,600lbs (assume that's dry without motor) as i would have thought her a bit heavier. from betwixt 'n between the deadrise that that hull has is around 11 degrees maybe? i know that it knocked us around pretty good when the chop came up.

i'm trying to eval how well a modern jet boat (yamaha ar230, 20deg deadrise, 3300lbs weight) might compare in terms of ride in the chop. from the numbers it would seem that it should be quite a bit smoother?

thanks,

oliver...

For the early 21 outrage (banana hull) - 20" shaft is required.
