HELP - I've got a 2007 190 Outrage w/150 Optimax 2nd time out (last wknd) had 2 alarms go off on Smartcraft; one was just the sending unit for the fuel tank, but the other 1 !!
1st the water psi seemed real low compared to the 90HP 4-stroke I had on my last Whaler only .8 PSI idling & maxed out @ 8-9PSI @ 4000RPM's does this seem low - the sensor never went off for low psi but I had 3 times a warning to reduce throttle & check engine - My biggest concern was with the low H2O PSI the temp was way up - idling @ 142-149 degrees - cruising @ 3800-4000 she dropped all the way down to 90-100 - biggest problem was trying to make way in 4-6 ft seas @ 2000 RPMs not on plane the temp got all the way up to 179!!
Dropped it off @ the dealer on the way home & told him the problems they've already called 3 times said the plug for the hose flush was missing & HAS to be used on the Optimax where I didn't have one on the 90 4-sttroke - that's where it discharged water to show the pump was operating - said I had a high temp code 179 degrees but I never got a warning. They said the starboard thermostat was sticking???- I've only been out 2 times & flushed it both times
Should I be concerned about engine damage from the short hi-temp & the "sticky" thermostat they didn't replace but cleaned off? Thanks

Check the impeller, a worn/dameged one would cause the water psi to drop, the sender shouldn't be going bad on an engine that new.

Thanks - the boat/engine are brand new only 14 hours - my only concern is that it set @ the dealer for the better part of a year because I bought it Dec 31st, 2007 & may have worked in some gremlins while sitting so long with only an occasional test drive & such.

I doubt that 179 degrees would harm your engine; it's not even hot enough to boil water. Besides, it's under warranty, no? If the problem persists, insist that your dealer replace the sticky thermostat. If that doesn't do it, then insist they check/replace the impeller.
