On my 2003 montauk I have added a kicker motor (6hp Merc).
So I installed a kicker mount (stainless), a remote throttle (so I can control the speed while at the helm) and a tie rod (so I can steer from the helm).

Here are the links for the photos.

I did the testing last week at monterey bay. Everything went very well. Top speed of the 6hp Merc kicker is 5mph according to my gps.

The merc 6hp-4s is the same as the tohatsu 6hp-4s and also the nissan 6hp-4s. I just like the merc because it matches (paint) with my merc 90hp-4s.

The tie bar I had some problems with bending it to the correct angles, but once that was accomplished it worked well. Making full turn (hard port or hard starboard) works great.

The remote throttle is only a throttle and NOT a shift control. Worked very well and will take some hours off my Main motor for trolling for salmon.

Ken,

Great job on installing the engine and tie bar.
Those bends on the tie bar are something. I had somewhat the similar bends on my Classic Montauk only not quite as setback as far as my kicker was mounted directly on the transom.

I had no choice on the newer 170. My old montauk (1997), the kicker mounted straight on the transom and NOT as drastic of bending the tie rod.
I had a tougher time on the 170 making the correct bends, but after some trail and errors, I finally got it right.

This setup (tie bar and remote throttle) will work great for salmon season. I just hope there is one this season.

I will be going to the salmon opener down in monterey bay (moss landing). I know its still ON. So I will fish hard.
