Hello to all of you.
I've just purchased my first whaler, it's an 87 Montauk with a 87 Johnson. :D
I have also just bought a Merc 9.9 4 stroke to use as a kicker.
I have a question about mounting the kicker motor. I have searched and read a lot about this. My question is when bolting the kicker to the transom, do I drill right through and use bolts or do I use lags? The kicker is a long shaft and will mount on the starboard side. I plan to use the two bottom mounting holes.
Here's a picture of my new baby. Thanks for any advice.
Joe

Oh hey another Joe!
Thanks for the quick reply.
So there will be wood around that mounting location?
I'm actually debating if this kicker motor will do. I just found out that there is no real way of flushing this type of Merc outboard without putting it in a garbage can full of water.
I will be fishing in the salt chuck and am used to flushing my motors at the boat launch afterwards. The water intake on this motor is under the anti-cavitation plate.
Anyways this is a great site and I have been reading lots and learning lots.
Thanks
Joe
