Sanding is complete on the wooden components and steel has been polished and readied for assembly on the RPS, but I am left with a problem with the surfaces of those Z-Posts. They are old and very dull/faded looking. The material appears to be a plastic casting colored brown.
I have cleaned the surface well but it looks lifeless. Any suggestions on how to make it look nice and new? It almost looks like something like auto detailing products might do it. I'm really tempted to rub in some vaseline or oil! That's the kind of dry look it has.

Apply some Penetrol to them. Available at any paint store.

Hey Tom,
Just wanted to show you what a great suggestion you made regarding the Penetrol for the RPS material. It made the legs look almost new.

Very Nice. Ill be picking up some penetrol today.
Grady, Have you given any thought to raising the legs on top of a 2 inch piece of teak to give more room underneath and a better height seat?

Penetrol - as in the paint thinner? How long is that going to last? Any concerns for long-term effects on the legs?

Penetrol is actually a paint conditioner. How long it lasts depends on your conditions. A few months or longer. This tip has been known for a while with no reported adverse effects.

My legs are white as well. Given the material is the same, the treatment should work. It might not be as noticeable though.

Yes I have. The decision will hinge in large part on whatever fuel tank winds up being used. I am not quite to that point yet. The console went in to my friend's fiberglass shop today to complete the restoration of it. Unfortunately, the previous owner painted it.@#$%!! I have to sand it down and repaint it correctly. A complete strip and gelcoat is going to blow the budget. I don't even have a motor yet. The one I am looking at is a cool $8,500.
Are you going to raise yours?

BTW Don't those Z Posts look great! I was really pleased with that suggestion.
