Sakonnets had a casting platform....correct? This was a a platform of wooden slats going from the center of the hull forward almost to the anchor locker. Sakonnets also had a reversable bench seat...correct? Did they have any rear bench seat?

Yes, the Sakonnet had a "Floor Rack" running from the aft edge of the center console to the anchor locker. It was made of mahigany and painted white. You can see the plans for it on this site, under Downloads/Parts Drawings. They had a reversible pilot seat that was all mahogany, with storage underneath the seat. They did not have a rear seat, tho the dealer could have installed a rear seat from the Eastport model (drawings of that are available in the Parts Drawings as well.)

Actually the casting platform was made of fir and painted white. The plat form had a center section that was hinged and folded into a seat for two. I have one and to me it is one of the best features of the boat. It gives additional storage space underneath, will hold scuba tanks etc. A great platform for pulling schrimp and crab nets.

The stern bench seat was an option for the Sakonnet and Nauset models, standard on the Eastport model. The Reversable pilot seat (RPS) was standard on the Sakonnet and optional on the Nauset and Eastport.

The drawings for the casting platform called for "straight grained fir or mahogany cleats" and "solid mahogany slats." The casting platform on my 1975 was mahogany, or at least the slats were. I never thought to check whether the cleats were made of a different wood. Perhaps there were different materials used at different times.

The casting platform has been made variously out of Pine, Fir and Mahogany over the years, always painted white from the factory.

I have always thought I have a Nauset...and I still do. I have the casting platform, but I have the bench seat of a Nauset. I had once heard that the casting platform was an option that one could purchase with a diferent model.

Anybody else hear this?

You are correct.

Starting with the bare hull which was offered back then, you had choices and options.

1. Nauset
2. Eastport
3. Sakonnet

Now, we the above 3 models you could choose to install the forward platform on.
You could also choose to add the RPS (from the Sakonnet model) to either of these models.
You could choose to add the rear seat (from the Eastport model) to either of these models.
You could choose to delete the bow rail.

Lots of options or deletions when buying in those days so it is sometimes really hard to tell what model the boat may actually be unless it is a stock model.

Thanks....just a brief bit of confusion....and just to add to it, I have a non standard aft seat/storage. Thise pics will come later. I believe it was made from a very qualified wood craftsman, not whaler.
