I am finally getting an 90hp E-TEC for my 1986 17' Montauk this weekend. I was doing some online research trying to figure out what to expect. The boat currently has a 1986 Yamaha 2 stroke which will be coming off for the E-TEC.

My questions surround how it will be mounted to the boat. Do you think they will be able to use the same mounting holes as my Yamaha? I have also seen some posts from people who said they used jackplates with the 90 on montauks. Do I have to use a jackplate?

Thanks,

The ETec and old Yamaha are both manufactured to NMAA standards which means the mounting holes are standard across all manufactures.

Also, you do not have to use a jackplate on your hull.
