I will be painting my engine in two weeks and cannot find any pictures of other engines to identify what it should propery look like. (Mine was painted over 15 years ago and I have no prior photos) The engine is a 89 70 hp Evinrude. Does anyone know where I can find a colored photograph of this model? I already asked the dealer where I get all my parts and they do not have any of the colored brochures for my model.

try nymarine.ca (yes, that's Canada). He specializes in older Johnsons and Evinrudes (he had the paint for my 1961 75 HP Evinrude). I don't know if he considers 1989 'old' but I'll bet he can tell you the color and where to get it.

Kathleen,
The dealer should have the color numbers for the matching paint for your engine.
The colors and part numbers are right in the dealers parts manuals.
I have a 1985 Evinrude and my dealer had spray cans of all the different colors sitting right on their shelf.
I have looked at your Personal Page. Your motor is the correct color.

Here are a few photos of my prior 1985 Evinrude 70 which is the same color up to 1989 I believe.

Here are a few photos of my prior 1987 Evinrude 70 twins.

Here are a few photos of my 1985 150 Evinrude and my 1988 8 hp Evinrude.

All my above Evinrudes were the same Silver Blue color.
My spray can says
"OMC Silver Blue"... "1983 to 1986"...
However, I painted my 1987 engines with the same can and the color looked identical.
Again, check with your dealer.

Thank you for all the help. I will call the guy in Canada and see what he can tell me. Does anyone know where to find the Evinrude sticker decal that is on the engine cover? I know there are places that can make it for me by looking at it but the colors are too faded to get an accurate representation. For example, I cannot tell if some of it is navy blue or black.

Ken has been collecting Evinrude & Johnson advertising and he has tons. It will at least give you a photo of what the advertisement looked like for that year. Any Evinrude dealer should be able to get you the paint.

konakai,
I'm not positive your engine is a 1989 from the color in your personal page.
Can you give us the model number of your engine.
It should be something like E70ELCCS

I think you may be onto something because the dealer didn't think it was the original color. My family is not the first owner of the boat and engine. With the first owner, somebody stole the whaler and took the engine off of it. They ended up finding the boat and replaced the engine. I'm not sure if they got it brand new or if it was used. The dealer said that the engine cover may not be original to the actual unit.
The number on the unit read:
Model # E70TLCCA
Serial # G1B02752
One more question if anyone knows. The plastic raised horse power number decals on the engine cover, were they all silver with black trim?

Kathleen,
The CC in your model number indicate that this is a 1988 model engine....
