I finally talked my Dad out of his baby (1973 Cohassette II + original 80 Hp Merc) & will be starting the restoration soon. The good news is the work needed is mostly cosmetic. Tx reqiuires a "pencil tracing" of the HIN because I'm transfering it from Ohio registration. I'm assuming it's the number molded into the transom just to the left of the main motor mount (looking from the rear). I am a T-38 Simulator Instructor @ Laughlin AFB so its primary use will be fishing Lake Amistad. I will be setting up a site & posting progress pictures soon. B)

Are the ID numbers raised or indented? some are only stenciled into the gelcoat. Don`t know you could get a pencil tracing. Sounds like a really nice Whaler, post some pics.
I`d love a ride in a T-38.

You can either use a pencil tracing or take a picture of it. Texas honors both methods for transfer of title. Be sure to register you motor as well.....you'll need either a pencil tracing or a photo of the ID plate on your motor as well.

I went the tracing route. the motor was illegible so I just followed the form instructions & got no hassle from the tax office. The lady there said they wouldn't take a photo in Medina Co., but the rubbing & affidavit were fine. Something of interest, they wanted the molded 12 digit ID on the outside of the hull but the registration # on the new title is the Whaler ID # from the inside. Go figure. At least step 1 is done.
