I'm putting the finishing touches on the last pieces of teak that i have to re-work (minus the gunwales as i don't have my boat back yet :() and was teak oiling the last two pieces (the cooler cleats) and when i applied the teak oil, the finish was not all that good, and definately not par with the rest of the pieces. Are they in fact teak? or are they normally made of some other wood that needs to be varnished?

The cooler cleats are usually made from mahogany.
They were originally varnished just like the under gunwale rod holders.

Mahogany items I can think of.
Cooler Cleats (solid mahogany for both Outrages and Montauks)
Under the gunwale rod holders (mahogany plywood for Outrages)
Flying Top Set cleats (solid mahogany on Montauks)

If I think of anything else I will edit this post...

Ah Joe, that explains it. They definately had a course/dark finish, and luckily, i only did one. Will let it dry out a tad and try sanding it back down and refinish in varnish. The rod holders under the gunwales were plastic, and only the thin brace was original, the holders themselves were plastic. I purchased two Sea Teak rod holders which i'll use for the time being, and then later may go ahead and build some to spec out of teak, or mahogany.

It looks like the RPS seat back on my Newport is mahogany. I have the set back that is padded on both sides.
