The sprue hole located in the forward anchor compartment is uncovered, ie, just a circular hole with foam showing. Should this be sealed or otherwise covered? If so, how.

Yes it should be sealed.

Cover it with marine epoxy or marine sealant (not adhesive) like Life Caulk.
