This boat is a beauty and I don’t want to do anything to make it less classic, but I would like to make it mine by doing some work. Power components are excellent, so this question applies only to hull, interior, trim, tops, etc. any advice from experienced owners will be much appreciated; I don’t want to be (too) obviously first timer.

I owned a 1978 Montauk 17 for 15 years.
Excellent model.

Keep it original as possible and don't drill any holes that aren't absolutely necessary.

Sun Tops are great with the newer 1996 style sliders on the gunwale so the stowed top rest outside the front bow rail and out of the way.

Here are the instructions:

There are other 3rd party sliders etc.

Welcome Aboard Whaler Central.
