I noticed a different swing tongue set-up on the trailers that North Shore Marina (our local Boston Whaler dealer) is using. This is a bolt on kit while every other swing-tongue set-up I saw was a welded affair. When researching repairs to a trailer I once had the advice I received was to bolt all connections - not weld. The reasoning was that for items that get the kind of jostling that a trailer does, a bolt-on connection is more reliable. I don't know why this is but it is what I was told.

A quick search found only 1 source for these - Northern Tool. I couldn't even find them on Fulton's website.

I installed a roll bar in my Mustang (yes It's worked 850 HP and scarey fast) and to my surprise, the manufacturer also recommended high strength bolts for installation instead of welding, I used the high strength bolts (3 marks on bolt head).

Thanks for the info. It's interesting that bolts would provide a stronger connection. I ran into the same thing for a hitch I had mounted to the front of my truck. The welding outfit mounted it with bolts.

It's prolly because, the parts flex a bit, making a weld would only be asking for a crack in it. I too was under the impression that welding was always best, whats next ?? Nicotine & salt actually makes you live longer ???? Go Figya !
