Hi,
I recently purchased my second Boston Whaler, a beautiful 2016 240 Dauntless.
The second time I took her out I noticed that the bilge pump was not automatically engaging and noticed that the float switch was hard to trigger. So I decided to replace the Sahara pump with a new version (MK2) of the same pump. When I removed the defective pump I noticed that I had some water seeping out from the holes where the pump cage was screwed. It has been seeping a bit of water for past couple of hours. I am drying it up as it comes out and have decided to let it seep out as much as it wants before I install the new bilge pump.
See attached pictures.
I will say that this bilge pump seems to be the original one installed as the previous owner did not seem to do much maintenance or even use the boat all that much as it had only 260 hours on the original engine. I did not notice any sealant on the screws holding the pump cage down.
Now on to my questions, is this something to be concerned about? Should I contact BW?
When I install the new pump cage should I put some sealant on the holes before screwing the it down? If so, what should I use? 4200? Silicone?
Thanks a bunch!
