Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Aluminum bimini frame for 1986 Montauk 17

I have a 1986 Montauk 17 with full rails. My original Mills canvas still looks great, but my aluminum bimini frame is failing after 10+ years. The bimini is mounted to the gunnels and stows inside the bow rails.

I'd like to replace just the aluminum frame with an identical one. Does anyone sell these aluminum frames?

The frames I've seen online appear to be straight tubes and don't look like they have the bend inboard needed to clear the bow rail stand-offs in order to fold inside the rails.

I thought about using sliders and a wider frame to stow the bimini forward of the rails, but I have a bow mounted trolling motor that limits that option. Anyone have experience stowing a bimini to the rear instead?

Thanks in advance.

A Mills "sun Top" for a 1986 Whaler would have already had an SS frame, so what you have is not original, and not Mills. You can buy just the replacement SS frame from Mills.

From what i have seen, most after market, universal fit canvas "bimini tops" with aluminum frames are junk, probably doesn't fit the boat properly, and won't last long. Get the real thing from Mills.
