Hi All,
I have a 2019 Montauk 170 with the low rail package. I was wondering if anyone has installed a flush type rod holder in the gunwale? Is it possible? The only drawback I can see is water down in the holder then into the foam . It’s probably a bad idea but I thought I would ask.
Thanks much
Cliff

Use Rail Mount Rod Holders.

Very bad idea.
Cutting into the gunnel or anywhere in the boat, in any way, is an invitation for water ingress. Once in the hull, you can't get it out.

Plus it will probably weaken the gunnel integrity. The foam is structural. Definitely better options.

I looked at the specifications for the 2019 Boston Whaler 170 Montauk posted on the Boston Whaler website. The standard features showed 4 rod holders located in the stern. The optional Fishing Package offered 4 console mounted rod holders. How many rod holders do you need? You should already have 4 rod holders in the stern of your vessel.
