Since i have to repower my 22 OR, i have come across a good friend of mine who is selling one of these motors. I think it is a 97-98 (gray paint with red stickers) i think those came out before OMCs death. I have read that they are regarded as thirsty but bulletproof motors (and very reliable).

Any of you guys are familiar with these?? Thanks in advance for the help

I'm not sure exactly when OMC went belly up but it was due to the early "fict" fuel injected motors failing not so much the carb models. My old motors have been great but they do require regular maintenence and USE to stay that way. That 225 should be a fine motor as long as it has been maintained. Good luck.

GTL has an older Evinrude 225 (same as Johnson) maybe he will chime in with his opinion?

Just curious: what is your friend asking for that 97-98 225 Ocean Pro? The reason I ask is there's a recent post here regarding a 22' Revenge with a '99 225 Johnson Ocean Pro for sale at $6000. A few people have commented it seems like a low price for boat and motor. I think so too so I am curious about the motor $ to boat $ ratio on such a deal...

Brooks...since i live in the tropics, pricing on used motors is somewhat different from what you have up in the US. He is asking $2,500 and he is giving me the motor plus cables plus the harness.

The motor is undergoing an extensive maintenance from his mechanic and new gear oil, cleaned carbs and some other things are being replaced (all of this covered by him). The motor has not been used for more than a year but been regularly cleaned and fired to keep it in running order.

What do you think?? Too much dough??

I had missed this one on ebay - a 1995 225 for $1100.00 - sounds like it was priced low - I was waiting on a response from the seller on compression numbers when someone snatched it up with the buy it now. These motors seem to sell around $2k most of the time.
