Well, found a motor to mount on my 1971 13 foot sport. My concern is that the old motor when mounted was too low in the water with the cavitation plate looking like it was in the water. I also worry about the curve on the transom being able to accept the new motor drilled and clamped.

My question is should I look at this product to both adjust the height of the motor and to have a solid mounting to the boat?

The mini jacker shown is one option by it is not necessary. Adding additional transom weight will affect the hull's performance.

The more important question is where are the existing bolt holes in the transom?

Take a look at this pattern and verify where your holes are:

With the curve of the transom some members used wedges between the transom and the bracket.

It had 2 bolts near the top with the motor mount seated all the way down and flush at the top of the transom. I will get a measurement but I believe at the level of the lower 2 black holes in the diagram you posted. The upper bolts were clamped down with engine screw clamps in addition to the 2 through bolts with a plate underneath that disintegrated when I removed the clamp pressure.

I went back and measured. The prior motor bolt holes are 3.75" from the top of the transom and are spaced 7 inches wide. That is different from the diagram linked so regardless I'll plan on mixing up some epoxy and potentially a plug and some glass.

In measuring things out I needed to come one or 2 holes to have the right height from the keel for planing. I'm tempted to get the plate and bolt it on just to save the hassle of trying to manhandle the motor in place, drill, and get it hung properly. Am I making too difficult or will a little cost now be worth it

Tangent but progress. When I first picked up the boat both trailer and boat had been sitting for a while. The lights weren't working well but I got it limped home. Did a full rewire if the trailer and installed a folding tongue adapter and shucks howdy that's handy
