Joe,

The carbed Johnson motors were all good motors except for the Ficht series from 1998 to 2002.
I don't think your 90 is the Ficht series with fuel injection.

As long as the engine runs good, there shouldn't be any problems as these engines have been around for many years.

I have a 2000 Johnson 90 on a 1994 17' Outrage I.

Boat jumps on plane immediately, and hits 41 mph at WOT.

The Montauk is lighter, and has less of a deep v...so your numbers should even be better.

My only complaint is the smokiness, rougher idle, and the noise compared to the F250's on my Grady White.

A buddy of mine runs one on his Montauk. The engine is reliable gets the boat to just over 40. He has a 15hp Johnson kicker too. But we rarely use it except for real slow trolling. With both motors back there he has over 400lbs on the transom and it seems to handle it okay.

Are you requesting information on the motor or the performance? My 17 Montauk is powered with a 90HP '97 Johnson Ocean Runner. Like Joe said mine has carbs not fuel injection. At wide open I get about 40-42 mph according to GPS. I am running a 3 blade Rature SS prop -- not sure of the pitch. My ocean runner is a strong motor! I removed the oil injection system and highly recommend you do the same for the life of the engine.
