Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: 1975 Sport 13' | 2021 Suzuki 20HP?

Hi-

I have a 1975 Sport 13' and need to replace the outboard. Does anyone know if the 2021 Suzuki 20HP 4-stroke will be enough power to plain this boat with 2 passengers?

I have a suzuki 15hp tiller on my 13'. No speed demon, but planes easily with 2 people.

It will be fine but you really want a 30 HP

hey Jusry,

I had a similar challenge. There are very few options on the market right now. We just ordered a 20 HP Honda to power our 1971 13 Sport. It isn't going to be a speed demon but hoping that it's adequate for the fishing we'll mostly be doing in it.

Compare those 20hp motors to our article here for 13' Whalers.
A Sport model with Remote Steering has a max hp of 40.

A 30hp Honda short shaft motor weighs 155 lbs.
A Long shaft motor from 1973 and later Sport 13' weighs 160 lbs.

A 20hp Honda short shaft motor weighs 104 lbs. from 1972 Sport 13' and below.
