Hi All,

I’m a new member to the forum. We just purchase a 1990 Outrage 17 with a Yamaha 115. We got this mainly for cruising around the coast of south Dartmouth / Westport where we spend a lot of time during the summers. Likely entry point for us will be on slocumb river.

My wife grew up boating these waters with her family but on a larger boat and that was decades ago now. I grew up boating on Lake George, smaller boat much different environment.

Would welcome advice on areas to avoid and what seas others feel comfortable in a similar boat and what to avoid. We are easing our way back into boating and looking forward to the summer, but also being mindful of our limitations as well as the boats.

Nomad: You can go anywhere on the Vineyard Sound all the way to Nantucket with your model Boston Whaler. The most difficult aspect of you boating experience will be returning to your port of departure at Westport at the end of the day. Prevailing Southwest winds present on Vineyard Sound/Buzzards Bay will hit you hard. It is easy enough for you to cruise through Quick's Hole cut in the morning on your way to Menemsha. But the passage back to your point of departure will be difficult. Try it. You will see. It will be a wonderful day. But the last 2 hours of your journey will be choppy and uncomfortable for anyone on your vessel.

From the NE end of the Bay you can launch at Monument Beach and hit the end of canal for fishing or do beach days on mashnee dyke.

Also launch at Barlow’s landing ramp park your trailer with no parking sticker a bit up the road in the area of 404 Shore rd. with no town sticker. You can hit Bassets Island, get mudslides at the chartroom and do some dropline fishing off wings neck.
