2006 Dauntless 220 with a Mercury Verado 225:

I’ve been having a sporadic issue where the engine will rev on start or after coming back into neutral to the point where I can’t shift into F or R because of the increased revs. I also get a beeping around the time it might happen with no status on the LCD screen.

Turning off the engine for a bit will usually allow me to start and get back into gear.

My BW/Verado tech has never heard of it, couldn’t replicate it, and sees no error codes in the system. Thinks it could be a failing throttle ECM.

Any one ever experience this?

With the Verado Club offline, I cheated and did a bit of a web search.

Here is one reply to the same problem you describe on a 300hp Verado by a mech.

. possibly a bad IAC - Idle Air Control valve. The IAC is an electrically operated air valve that opens and closes as the engine runs to regulate idle speed. When they go bad they can stick full closed, and you get no idle, the engine does not start. Or they stick full open, and the engine will start and run to a very high idle.a

A similar report provided an additional suggestions - TPS (throttle position sensor)

Is your Verado tech Mercury certified?
