Good morning all,
Last week I received my new to me console side door that I purchased on ebay. Some of you may have seen it advertised at an east coast craigslist site. I currently have black starboard doors (rather poorly built and installed) covering both openings on the Standard console of my Outrage 22.
I am 100% happy with the condition of the door and frame- the teak is absolutely perfect. The lock, brass latch, and teak drip cap were missing, but those are fairly minor parts of the assembly.
The main problem I have is, I believe the door came off of a Super Console. It is 6" taller than the door on my console. Stoooopid me, the dimensions were even listed in the ad as 13"x22"!
Soooo, I am thinking about cutting my console opening larger to accommodate the larger door. The standard door is pretty small for accessing the inside of the console. It does not seem like it should weaken the structure- in the area where I would be cutting, it is a single thickness of fiberglass layup. I would have about 4" to the top of the console floor remaining
Joe or Tom, or the rest of the collective wisdom, could you comment on this idea?
OR would anyone with a Super Console like to buy this door from me for what I have into it? Or would someone care to trade me a Standard console door for this Super Console door? The cut out required is approximately 11"x20".
Thank you,
Doug Vazquez

Doug,
I may be interested in trading with you. I have a 1984 Outrage 22, standard console, and louvered doors. I just need to get to the boat and see if this will work.
Peter
P.S. My door has recently refinished with a two part varnish.

Peter,
I am pretty sure it would work. It would definately make accessing the inside of the console from that door easier.
This door has a natural finish- never been varnished. I think I prefer the oil finish to the varnish. Not that I don't like the look of varnished teak. I like the ease of renewing the oil finish.
I may still install it on my Standard console. I am just putting out feelers for any options that may be available.
Thanks,
Doug
