Tim,

Yes.....
I don't think there is any question about it.... The Teleflex SeaStar system.

One of the less expensive places I have seen them is at Surplus Unlimited.

Look under Steering/Hydraulic and then choose your motor and hose length.
I think 16' is good for the Outrage 18' but don't quote me... It may need 18' but again, I am not positive so maybe others here can give us the details...

I just did my 18 and it was pretty easy. You need 18 foot hoses which will allow for nice soft bends. I did Seastar but if you stay within the max horsepower of 150 you can drop down to Baystar. I did install the center mount cylinder which has worked out fine. The install was fairly simple, I do recommend loctite for all the threads and triple check port and starboard connections before filling. You can bleed the system solo, just takes some effort and a clean bucket.

Definitely stick with the beefier SeaStar. You're maxing out the BayStar system with 150HP, and I think it's better to have a margin of error with the beefier system.

While you're doing this, I'd consider spending an extra 300 bucks for a setback bracket. 10 inches of setback will clear the hoses and control cables out of your splashwell and free that area up for coolers/gear and get it out of the cockpit of the boat. RM Industries in Purdy, MO sells Rite Hite jackplates that are a good deal if you're in freshwater - but I'm not sure how they handle in salt (powdercoated aluminum). I have heard one report of the paint flaking in saltwater. In two seasons of use, I haven't had any problems with mine (all freshwater boating).

Let us know!

I just installled a Baystar unit from Seabob4 and it is a much better unit than the old Merc unit. Seabob4's prices were unbeatable . The unit was sealed in the original boxes and his delivery was prompt. My boat is a 1986 Outrage with a 150 Merc on it. ghostrider

Ghostrider, I was hoping to get some feedback about how the Baystar is performing with your Outrage. I am currently looking to replace the old dual cable Teleflex helm and am trying to decide between the Baystar and Seastar. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks
