I'm repowering my 1991 Walkaround 23. I'm stuck between twin 140hp Susuki's weighting 410 lbs each and 150 Yamaha's at 475 each.
any input???

There have been comments made in the past concerning the actual power rating of the Suzuki DF140 being slightly less powerful and a bit underwhelming.

As for the weight difference, it is always recommended to calculate the difference in weight of what you have vs replacement. Place the added weight using bags of sand, jugs of water, concrete et al on the bracket and observe the boat's sea keeping, static and ride trim/attitude.

I used to state that the Suzuki 140 was more like 125hp from the experiences I had in the early 2000's compared to my Suzuki 115hp. I have been told that the newer generation of this engine is a true 140hp and from the numbers I have seen recently on Outrage 18 performance, I will agree that it performs more like 140hp.

I believe epa and carb put the DF140A at 138 hp, which is not far off the cowl and ends up yielding a respectable power-to-weight ratio.

One thing I recall about the 23 Walkaround is that it is sensitive to weight on the transom, so I’d be looking for an option to minimize it. I’m a fan of twins, but would probably give serious thought to a single 250 or 300. I don’t have the spec for the 25” shaft, but a 20” Mercury 300 Hp ProXS (4.6L V-8) has a dry weight of 505 lbs. Even assuming another 50 lbs for fluids and 25” shaft, that would result in tremendous weight savings on the transom. And likely a much less expensive repower option, too.

Based on my research on outboards, that Suzuki 140 is the high power version of their 115. Small block. The HP is definitely there but not the torque...

It's a good motor if the low weight is important.

Why would you say the torque is low? My 115 Suzuki was a torque monster compared to my 115 Yamaha.
