Had boat out yesterday in Sarasota Bay which is NOT deep water in many locations. Unfortunately found a sand bar at low tide but with another boaters help came clear. Rest of day ok and motor ran well. However, when flushing motor after returning to the slip the "pee" hole did not stream water although plenty of flush water came out around the lower unit/prop area. Can the pee hole be cleaned with a thin flexible wire or cable? The temp gauge didn't indicate overheating after the "event".

Without knowing the model and year of your engine this is general information. Please edit the above post.

Remove the engine cover and remove the water tell tell hose from the grommet inside the lower engine case. Run engine on muffs (do not exceed 1k rpm's) Clean the grommet with fishing/trimmer line. Reattach.

Note any change in flow.

I would drop the lower unit and pull the water pump. Disassemble and clean, reassemble and reinstall.

Thanks for the reply. my engine is the original Mercury EFI 225 HP 2 stroke on my 2001 BW 21 Ventura. Did some minor probing with a thin wire around pee hole and ran another flush with high pressure. In a few seconds some muddy water burst out. Ran water another 5 minutes and was clear. Fortunately will not have to resort to the tear down you suggested. Thanks again.

I carry a foot long or so weed trimmer line on my boats. They always get clogged, especially on my Suzukis which do not have a high pressure indicator like other brands, more like a sprinkler than a hose.
