Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos

I have asked a lot of advice from many members over the last few months on purchasing a larger Whaler. I apologize for asking so many questions but I have to be solid with my decision making. Some very sound information with different perspectives has guided me towards the Revenge 22WT models.

After closely examining a Revenge V22 I was concerned with the freeboard. I measured roughly 18" and with a one year year old baby boy(who I believe is part monkey!) this makes me a little nervous. My research tells me this is a fairly accurate number. It would be nice to have a little more freeboard for the little one. I don't want to push to hard and end up having a Whaler that doesn't suit my growing needs.(sort of like my Super Sport!)

Could I please get some feedback from other owners who may have encountered the same situation?

Mel,

You could always add some custom side rails.
6 or 8 inch high, whatever you might feel comfortable with..

Or a short leash on him so he can't get too close to the edge until a little older....

Just a thought.

I have a 3 year old.

When he was younger and on the boat, either I or my partner had a hand on him (literally) at all times. As he has gotten older, I had him in the boat while on the trailer in the yard and taught him about always having his vest on before he gets in, always hold on to a rail or handle moving around and never to climb over the sides, stern or over the bow. I am very strict about "boat rules". We spent countless hours over 6 months.

Now he is in a phase of not wanting to be in the boat while in the water, only on the trailer. Go figure.

I think if you have him under direct supervision (active, not passive) it will be okay.

That's a good suggestion as long as it doesn't interfere with boarding. I also have thought about the leash idea.

You are absolutely correct and we have already started his training this summer. I guess if he can do alright in a 15 Super Sport he should be fine in a Revenge.

Now I'll just have to wait for the right one to come along.
