Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Anode - propellor grounding

The propellor sacrificial anode erodes very quickly. No room to put a bigger one. The propellor has a fibre safety flange between the shaft end and the transmission, and thus isn’t grounded. I can ground the shaft to the transmission with a 3” wire jumper over the fibre flange. The bolts all rotate together so no issue there. Question is, should I do that? Does the propellor/shaft need to be grounded to the transmission/ground -ve.

What kind of boat and what kind of motor?

Years also may help.

You do not need to ground the prop shaft or there would be a ground on it. You or something near you is causing electrolysis. Do you tilt your engine when not in use out of the water? Where is the boat stored and what type of water is it used in? Do you have a grounding plate for your electronics? What material is your prop? Are you referring to the anode above the prop that also adjusts your steering? How long is quickly?
