Our first poll is just about over and we are looking for new ideas.
What would you like to create a poll or survey about?
We already have a few ideas and would like more for upcoming polls.
These polls will run every month and the results posted.
The question should be as short as possible.
There will be a max of 5 choices.
(The above guidelines are so the poll doesn't take up the entire page)
Here are a few ideas so far:
-----------------------
from Casco Bay Outrage;
1. How many use boat primarily to:
Fish
Pleasure
Commercial
2.How many hours (approximately) do you average per season?
0-30
31-60
61-90
91-120
120+
3. What is the average # of people you have onboard when underway:
Alone
1
2
3
4+
-------------------
from arthureld;
1. What brand of VHF radios are members using
?
?
?
?
Other
--------------
I think the one we are going to use starting the 1st of November is a take-off from Casco Bay Outrage suggestion:
Question: Primary use of your Whaler?
Answers:
Fishing
Cruising
Commercial
Water Sports
Can anyone think of anymore answers to the above question?

Joe,
Sorry I should have read the request to keep it short!
How about "would (do) you take your boat offshore (maybe how far)" or "are you accustomed to pushing the envelope" or "do you take your Whaler into situations involving weather that you might not take another boat?"
Possibly "have you been caught out in weather that you might not if you had thought about it?"

I think it would be good to ask what brand of GPS, Depthfinder or GPS/Sounder

What brand of power would you choose if give the choice for repowering?
What hull would you own that best represents a "Classic" or "Quintessential" whaler? Or maybe the question should be "If Whaler could bring back one classic model which would you want to see or purchase?"
What brand of tires do you use on your trailer?
What is your preferred brand of tow vehicle?
Do you use OEM oil or another brand for your outboard?
Who is your favorite WC member?
What area do you do most of your Whalering in? Northeast, Mid Atlantic, Gulf Coast, West coast, Pacific Northwest, Great Lakes, Middle America, or Outside the US?

I'd be interested to know how hands on members are in terms of restoring/repairs, how far they travel from port/offshore on an average trip, moor vs trailer, and how many Whalers people have owned...

How about:
How many wear their "PFD" ?
What should be attached to the PFD ?
What types of PFD's are most comfortable ?
What types of Emergency equipment work well ?
How many have taken a safe boating course ?

A. 1 month

Derwd,
Good one....
He gotcha Jeff........ :p
----------
Lots of good ideas from everyone.
I'm not sure what should be defined by Recreation?
Water Sports + Cruising + Relaxation
I think relaxation is part of cruising and water sports like water skiing, etc. is different.
Transportation should be part of commercial. Right?
November 1st Poll.
Question:
Primary use of your Whaler?
A. Fishing
B. Cruising (includes relaxation)
C. Commercial (includes transportation, crabbing, etc.)
D. Water Sports (skiing, tubing, wake boarding, etc.)
E. Other (includes lawn ornament, mail box post, flower bed, etc.)
Things is parenthesis will NOT be shown due to length....

Joe -
I added "transportation" since I spend 1/2 my season hours transporting family members and all kinds of freight (groceries, lawnmower, constructions materials, luggage, etc. ect.) to an island and back.
You would not believe the looks and comments I get at the ramp.
I think I am unique (in a good way)

Sounds like Jeff might have sniffed one out.... as for Bob I think the question should be amended to read how long will it take Mr Kemmler to mount a 150 Mercury on a Mischief?

Here's another idea... Not exactly sure about the answers and how they should be labeled.
What size Whaler do you own?
A. 9-15
B. 16-17
C. 18-20
D. 21-25
E. 26+

The new monthly poll has started.
You will find the poll in the lower left side panel. You may need to scroll down depending on the size of your monitor....
7 people have voted so far.....
Let's see how many members have which sizes of Whalers.....
To view the previous polls, there is a "Polls Archive" link at the bottom of the Polls panel.

January is coming up and along with it a new Poll...
I haven't been getting any new ideas so I am going to go with one of these....
Question:
Who is your favorite WC member?
1. Joe
2. Joe
3. Joe
4. Joe
5. Other Joe
I like the one above but here is another choice that we might use... B)
Question:
How many hours (approximately) do you average per season?
1. 0-30
2. 31-60
3. 61-90
4. 91-120
5. 120+
I am starting to run out of ideas and brain cells folks...
We need more ideas from all of you for next years Polls...
Just because your Poll might not be used doesn't mean it isn't a good valid Poll.
We will try to use it sometime in the future...
Submit some ideas but we do need to follow the guidelines above to keep it short....

Thanks guys...
And don't forget Mike.
A little background info.
Mike and I had our own separate Boston Whaler pages many years ago.
Some people called them "crappy" little 10 page websites.
Mike had the WhalerCentral.com name on his website with a few parts photos and I had my Drawings page with a few Boston Whaler drawings.
Mike and I have been friends for many years and he happened across this forum software so he called me and asked me if I wanted to join forces....
So, we combined our websites and resources and used the name "WhalerCentral"...
Where else can you go to see a photo of a Classic Boston Whaler part?
Where else can you go to download parts drawings for Classic Boston Whalers?
Those are just a couple of things we started with. It has obviously grown from there.
We ultimately want to provide the information that everyone is interested in, not just what we think should be posted here. This site is about, and for, all of the members.
So keep the ideas coming and let us know what you want to see.

Thanks for the background Joe, I always wondered how things got started!
Personally I'd like to see.... spring as it's currently 0 degrees here (no kidding unfortunately!). But I have to say getting the Whaler this spring and finding this site at the same time has really been excellent, not to mention helping me tolerate the winter much better this year. Great site, great community of people, and great to check in frequently to see what people are working on. Thanks! (and think spring)

All I am able to do is read right now, so this should be fun. It's 4 degrees this morning! Not a lot you can do on a restoration in temps like that. :@

Maybe ad "no name" - or maybe that would fall under other. My Whaler currently has no name - my Deck boat is named "Floridays" - Jimmy Buffet song. Wanted to name it "Mental Floss" (another JB song) - but saw a local boat with the same name so I had to change.

I never got a name, I tried "The Nimitz" ( nobody understands what I said on the VHF when "Hailing"). "The Sled" ( huh, ya got a snowmobile ), "Whalen's Whaler" (too many "Whales" in the name), and for some strange reason (besides me being "Strange"), I think the transom is too small with the outboard in the way for a name (it would be too crowded back there). A few times I had a lettering kit, and was going to put on a name ( you should have a name on the hull, in case the Coast Guard goes looking for you, or has to "Hail" you ) but, did'nt do it . On Memeorial day I was going to add a name, I got close, I looked at the boat and it was a perfect "Red" (Whaler Logo), White, (Hull) Blue, (bottom paint and blue cushions), I decided to add a small U.S. Flag to the bow (temporary, proper Flag rules requires that on the stern), I was going to add the name but, stepped back and said "This looks great", just a clean little 15 footer in Red, White, and Blue with a flag for "Memeorial Day". I'm looking at the boat now covered in the driveway, the thermometer reads 19*F, I wanted to go out to get the stencile # last night for the reg on "W/C" model's, but, it was so cold (20-30 mph winds), and I had worked outside all day, so once I got warmed up inside (via a great NY pepperoni Pizza), I was exhausted, is spring ever gonna get here ? I'm "twisting on the Hook" (hey, possible name) to get out there and do some work on the Boat. If you're looking for a cool boat name check out the horse racing pages in the newspaper, race horses ALWAYS have "COOL" names !
