Hi,

Starting to research options for repowering our 1966 16’ Currituck. She currently has a 1979 Evinrude 100 hp. Works ok but it’s a messy outboard- always leaking in the engine well, loud, poor fuel economy and recently had to replace both power packs. I’ll probably run this engine for another few years at least. We use the boat for water skiing tubing and just bobbing around in the bay. I’ve been looking at 90 hp Yama (2 and 4 stroke) and 90 Etec (including the high output). Top end performance and low end torque are important. I think my current engine is 288 lbs? I am concerned about the mix of power and weight on the transom. Also, I currently operate off 2 six gallon tanks in the stern with battery box and bilge bump mounted to box between the two tanks under aft bench. I can maybe reconfigure a little though but it would be tough. Any recommendations or advice? Total budget is $15k. Boat is in perfect condition and the hull has new gelcoat without a scratch.

$15k? You can repower for way under $10k with anything you want. Then again if you are going to run tis engine for another "few" years you may want to wait before you do your research as engines evolve every year.

Hi PL

That’s my Ole 66! I sold her to you! Glad she is in good hands still! Please contact me with pictures if you have time! I have a very nice later model FRESHWATER Evinrude 90HP with almost no hours for sale that would be perfect for that beauty! Just bolt her on and go! Sell that 100 and have very little cash involved! Thanks. Jim D. Text or Call 4435535900 or email me via my profile!

Hi Jim! Sent you an email with pics! What year is your 90? The 100 Evinrude still runs great. Wife says it’s too loud and messy.

Once you go modern you will wonder why you waited so long, not to mention the much better fuel mileage. I bought my first 4 stroke in 2000 or 2001(70hp Evinrude/Suzuki) and I will never own a 2 smoke larger than 15hp again as they are such an improvement in every way except holeshot.
