Looking at a 18' Dauntless with a 115hp Merc on the back...any feedback on this setup? I know it's a little under-powered but for what I do, it speed has never been an issue...as for "2'itis", this would probably be my last move for a while...I currently have a 1991 17' Outrage with a 120hp Johnson on the back...so the Dauntless should give me a little more range and comfort...it's wider and heavier...any other thoughts? Any thoughts about the Dauntless hull design? Is it wet or hard pounding?

Thanks for the feedback...I think in the end, I'll keep what I have but want to explore this one option...

Dave -

I think there is a measurable difference. A Dauntless 18 feels much wider (and is) than we are used to on our Outrage 17's. Not sure the length is that obvious. Was not to me.

While not an expert, it felt to me that the added weight improved the ride but I think it does not handle the snot as well. I consider it to be a fair weather (near shore) boat.

After going from a Montauk 17 to an Outrage 17, I would strongly suggest you look at a classic Outrage 18 or 20. If it were me, I would go for the 20. Having admired one, owned by a Seacoast whaler group member, it is big, but not too big.

EDIT:

I do think the boat is better for seating with the stern bench.
Are you looking at a pre-2002 with a notch?
Sounds like tabs are a must.

Hope it helps.
