Is it better to go with 30 hp lighter weight or 40 hp weighing 40# more?
Will 30 hp get boat up on plane easily?

Depends on your load. I have the heaviest 40hp made(Suzuki 2004 4stroke) at roughly 250lbs. Is it too heavy, no. Do I wish it were lighter, yes.

More like 60 pounds more.
