Hi all; haven't been around much, but I figure you guys would know the answer to this. To the point: I have a 1998 Montauk 17 that came with a caulkins bunk trailer. I have an opportunity to upgrade to a 2014 190 Montauk. But the 190 does not come with a trailer. Purchasing one puts the cost rationale out of whack, and the dealer doesn't care if the trade in comes with it or not. Do you think the Caulkins will work? Too short/ narrow? I use the trailer very little: one 3 mile trip to the marina in the spring, back in the Fall, and winter storage. Much thanks for the input!

(corrected to proper name of 190 Montauk for clarification)

What is the weight rating of your trailer? Most trailers are for a range of boats which usually goes like this:
13-15'
15-17'
17-19'
19-21'
If you have a 15-17, probably not. Can you tell us what the Vin# says or the capacity plate? Vin is usually stamped on the trailer but sometimes they only have a capacity plate. They are both towards the front of the trailer.

You might be able to get away with the wider beam of the Montauk 190.

You will most likely need to buy a longer tongue to address the longer LOA of the Montauk 190.

You will not, however, be able to handle the added weight of the Montauk 190.

The dealer offered trailers for the classic Montauk 17 (dry weight of 1200 lbs) had axle ratings of ~ 1500-1700 lbs.

The Montauk 190 has a dry weight of 2400 lbs.
