I just picked up my new stern seat for my 89 Outrage 18. The guy who rebuilt it did a real good job; however, he junked the old seat contrary to my instructions. This leaves me in a little situation as I was counting on the old seat to provide me with fixture hole locations.

In order to correctly position the seat on the boat, I thought that I'd simply install the mounting hardware to the deck of the boat where they were previously installed, then position the seat and mark hole locations. Well, upon further examination of the deck, it would appear that the previous owner may have relocated the seat by an inch to one side at some point as there seems to be an outline of the hardware on the deck panel, while there are also epoxy-covered holes about an inch from this location(see photos below).

I am interested in finding out where the stern seat was originally located. It could have either been installed more to the left which would mean that the rear left leg would be affixed to the bilge cover and the right side to the removable deck panel or more to the right where it would be affixed to the main deck section.

This question is more out of curiosity as I will need to opt for the latter location as I do not have the bilge cover.

Well I succeeded in installing the stern seat today (see pic) thanks to the info from Joe and Jeff. As you can see, the finished product looks pretty good. B&J's Upholstery in Moncton, NB did a quality job rebuilding the seat by using the old beat-up seat as a pattern for $500.

As I keep working away at the teak, I'll also start dimantling the console components. Here's a question for Joe: I am thinking about buying your console panels instead of having the current ones repainted; however, was wondering how I would get the guage holes done?

Mike,

That looks real nice. I especially like the bar going across the bottom. This will keep things under the seat where they belong.

As far as the panels. You can buy the correct hole saw for metal just about anywhere. Or, borrow them from your friend of neighbor if available...

I always recommend that people reuse theirs and have them Powder Coated unless they are changing the hole layout or moving gauges around in the panels.

However, mine are available for people that need them...

Your stern seat looks great!

I believe my Outrage was originally fitted with a stern seat. I can see patched screw holes on the insides of the covering boards where the cross rail was mounted and in the deck where the seat supports were secured.

I use my boat almost exclusively to fish from. I think a stern seat would be too much in the way for fishing, but I still would like to have one. They look so comfortable!

That's a mighty fine looking Outrage 22 that you have there.

It took me a little while to move forward an get the seat redone as it does take up some space and I expect to do some fishing also; however, My three little boys will appreciate it.

I have a 1987 Outrage 18 as well, and have been searching for a stern seat. Any ideas on where to track one down? I'm in Seattle, but willing to go out of the area if I can afford it. Monsoon - You're seat looks great!! Exactly what I've been looking for.
