Hey folks - first time in this forum...I have 2 Super Sports 15’, pairs with the cintage Johnson from the same year, one has a 2 stroke 60 and one a 2 stroke 70. The boat is rated for a 70 hp.

Unfortunately the compression is done on the 70 hp, and the mechanic said it was cooked. The 60 still works but the gears in the lower unit are slipping every now and again so I am looking to maybe report the 70 hp altogether and get a new lower unit for the 60 HP.

I like the white color of the 2018 evinrude e-tec as it’s the closest thing to the Johnson original, and it is a light weight 2 stroke. Only problem is they only make a 60 and 75, and I am not willing to go beyond the max rating for the boat of 70 hp.

Will the Evinrude 60 hp go as fast as the old original 70 hp Johnson. Any recommendations are welcome.

Sure, will the lower end from the 70 fit on the 60?

The Etec 75 weighs too much so you are only looking at the 60HP. Here is a link to the engine choices for your boats if you want to repower>>>

Personally I'd look around for a good used engine.
