1985 , SS 15' ,2001 mercury 40 2 stroke ,carb .

the engine came off a pontoon boat so i know i have to move down in size.
it has a 12.25 X 9P on it now

i want to use it on lake michigan and other smaller lakes, rarely towing, mostly fishing and speed

thanks hope to get some good info.

best i can figure something around a 10 X 16P

A pontoon and a 15' are completely different boats and have vastly different prop requirements.

Recommendations by owners with the same model with a Mercury 40hp advise trying these specific model/size:

Mercury Black Max 14"
Yamaha Painted SS 14"

If you're looking for the lower cost of aluminum, the best prop for the engine is a Mercury Spitfire 4 blade, also sold as a Quicksilver Nemesis for a few bucks less.

For the very best performance and top speed, and more money, get the SS Trophy Sport.

Go to the Mercury Prop selector section for correct pitch.
