Ran into a fellow Whaler the other night at Fitzie's in Breton Bay ... Any other Breton Bay area Whalers want to meet up in that area sometime this late summer/Fall? It would be cool to pack the pier at Fitzie's with Whalers ...

Fitzie's sounds like fun. But a bit far for those of us on the upper Potomac, for a day trip.
I'd potentially be interested in a Whaler meet-up somewhere mid-Potomac, in late-September or early-October. I've been looking for an excuse to run down to the ship graveyard in Mallows Bay. The carbs on the old Yamaha could use a good hard run...

Mallows Bay would be fun ... When I was stationed at Quantico, we would rent a plane from the flying club at lunchtime sometimes and go bomb those ships with 2-lb sacks of flour. Golly, those were fun times. Be careful of all the submerged hazards around there.

I would be interested and willing to trailer to the location of choice.

Great story!
And thanks for the heads up on submerged hazards. The aerial photography I've seen of Mallows Bay shows it littered with wrecks. So yes, caution is advised.

mtnsherpa -- I use the ramp at
https://www.combscreekmarina.com/arina.com/ -- it's close to Fitzie's and on a very nice creek. There's also a ramp at Fitzie's itself, but I've never used it ... yet.
Breton Bay is actually a decent sized bay with several interesting creeks. Also, St. Clements Island is pretty close if you wanted to make a day of it.
Would a Saturday work sometime?

Stovebolt,
Apologies for the delayed response. Doubt I'll be able join you for an outing this fall as my schedule quickly became booked up out until at least mid-October. We'll have to try again at some point.

Good to know. If you Upper Potomac guys get together, let us Lowers know -- maybe we'll come up and join ya.
FWIW, and wx permitting, I may be making a run to Colonial Beach tomorrow.

Okay ... so the run to Colonial Beach didn't go so well ... but it did result in a new engine for Makai :)
New news -- a couple of us are trying to plan a So. MD Whaler Squadron run/tour to Solomons Island before the end of the year. It may just be the two of us, but if anyone else is interested in joining us, we'd love to have you. Wx is looking good for next weekend ...
