I caught the Discovery channel last night as they were airing the series Extreme Engineering. Aside from the host driving my crazy the show is usually pretty good and last night was a surpirse to see they were featuring offshore boat racing. In particular the Miss Geico Team with thier Turbine Marine Powered catamaran. Any boat lover would enjoy this show and if you get the chance to catch a rerun watch it. The next airing is Saturday Morning at 11am

Just thought I would pass it along. As much as I love whalers, I would give anything to go 180mph on the water.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting and working with the members of the Geico racing team here on Long Island. They were competing in a OPA power boat racing event. All really nice folks from both Geico and all the other competitors. Unbelievable the setup Geico brought to town to support their racing boats and entertain their own crew, their fellow racers, and all of us that worked during the race. The word is they are coming back again next year. I highly recomend checking it out if you can. The Miss Geico cat clocked a high speed of 162 MPH that day. The really amazing thing is how QUIET it actually is! Again really nice people!

I caught that show too and thought it was fascinating. Especially when they looked at the other boats piston engine after having gone through the description and breakdown of the "linear" turbine. Made that technology seem pretty dated by comparison. Until you saw the actual race and how much power they all produce. I was also amazed at the acceleration of that boat, must be quite a feeling...

I will be ready to watch at 11 this Sat! The highland lake chain of Central TX (Thanks LBJ!) hosts the NHBA drag races at Lake Marble Falls every Aug and it too is a thrill. You can feel the engines thunder in your chest as they roar down the course and you can watch the pits as they rebuild after almost every race. Amazing !! BUT...there is nothing like a turbine...except maybe for a Rolls Royce!!
