I recently bought a Sea Lion S 17-1700 for my 1985 Montauk. This is a bunk trailer with a single roller at the bow. It was originally adjusted to fit although I wasn't happy with the height because I have to tilt my 90 Yamaha slightly or the skeg will touch the ground. I plan to raise the bunk brackets as high as I can to gain a few inches for the skeg. However, the port bunk shifted so that needs attention, too, but in the process should the bunks be flat or is there a recommended angle to best support the hull?. Each carpeted bunk is 5 3/4 " wide. Also, is there a standard measurement where that bunk needs to be to properly support the hull? Thanks for any suggestions. I don't trailer other than to go to and from the water once a season so I appreciate any input.

1979 Montauk, Yamaha 90 4 stroke.

Continental trailer- My 8 foot bunks are angled to match the V of the hull and are located approx. 15" either side from the drain plug. They extend from 2" past the transom to about the center of the console . You want the motor tilted when trailering to avoid contact with the road and at the ramp to avoid hitting the rampover angle and the bottom when launching and retrieving. The bunks need to contact the hull the full width of the bunk and they will be angled to make this contact. Use tie down straps to hold the boat to the trailer. They are Required by law in Florida and prevent hull and transom damage.

I also have a keel roller at each crossover to avoid any hull damage if I hit a crossover when retrieving.

See our article on "Proper Trailer Setup"

As wrangler says, raise the motor all the way up and locked when trailering.
You want the boat as low as you can get on the trailer so it is easier to launch and retrieve.
