I have a 2016 Montauk 150 with a 60 hp mercury 4 stroke, boat was purchased new.

I have noticed over the las couple of trips that the motor makes a whistling noise at certain times and yesterday the alarm sounded 2 beeps. I slowed down and hooked back on to my mooring. The engine starts fine and the whistling did not happen while at idle and not in gear.

I popped the cowling off and noticed the plastic tube in the pictures which has nothing attached to it. Is this normal or shpould it be plugged or attached to something?

Also wondering if anyone has experienced the whistling noise.

Thanks bill

I have the same problem on my 2017. If you google the issue you will find dozens of queries, all with different solutions and many with no resolution. The best one i heard was its a bushing used to prevent damage from harmonic vibrations, and that its harmonic vibrations on that bushing.

I never had an alarm go off.

Your pic is too small to be legible. I can't tell what the hose is.

Its the idle air control and no hose attached is normal. Have you resolved the noise on yours?

Since it's only 2 years old, any chance the motor is still under warranty?

In my case the dealer gave me a 3 year warranty, so no problem in that regard. The dealer is a 6 hour drive for me, and I would have to make the trip twice, so I'm avoiding having to take it in. Besides the motor runs so awesome that I'm not too concerned.

After reading all of the dozens of comments online, my concern level dropped even more. Every dealer suggested a different repair / adjustment and in most cases the noise didn't disappear. Seems like a common issue with these China made motors, going back many years. So if it truly is a harmonic thing, then its not really a problem, just an annoyance.

Under warranty until 2022, no problem there just dont want to haul it and lose a couple weeks of the season waiting to get it worked on if it is not necessary. I ran it yesterday and it seems fine.
