I am looking to get a tank to put under the seat of our 13' whaler sport ...

I want to free up some space ...I know Timbo did this with a 14 gal tempo tank. I think the measurements of his are 43.38"L x 8.5"H x 15.5"W...this is based on tempos website for a 14.5 gas tank

I have a chance to get a tank that is 10" high and I am not sure if it will fit so I am looking for the measurements of how much room is under the drivers seat of a 13' whaler and also how wide is the seat plank ...I know you may be saying go outside an measure for yourself . Well the boat is out of state at our summer getaway

Just the other day I looked (either here or the other whaler board) at photos of a 13 where the owner raised the forward seat for a tank. He had a round cutout in the seat for the fill and a u shaped cut for the hose fitting.

Do you want your tank under the console seat or the forward seat?

The truth of the matter is if the one I am thinking of buying off CL will fit then, I wll buy that one if not . I am going to buy the one like Timbo has

the 14gal is too big. it will fit but is too tight. it rubs really bad on the ends and if you want to put the dry deck mats it will not go under seat. i have the 14gal if you want it. the 12gal is the tank. it fits very nice. 12 gal is plenty of fuel for that boat. don't drill a hole! it is not that hard to slide the tank back a few inches and fill it. do not strap the tank down! it will not hold. let it move around. you can load around it and it stays under the seat. good luck. it is a nice boat.

For what it's worth, I think a 12 or 14 gal tank is too big for a 13. I don't know what motor you have. I have the Nissan 40 TLDI and ran all over the lake in rough conditions fishing all morning and used 2.4 gallons. Most of that time was spent chasing birds to find fish and running around. We went about 12 miles down the lake, ran through some bayous, and back up the lake. My goal is to have an aluminum tank custom built that will fit underneath and attached to the thwart seat. It only needs to be three to four inches deep and should hold more than enough gas for a day's fishing and running around. My idea is to put the filler spout in the "crook" of the seat and the console so it will be out of the way yet accessable. I plan to have the front and back edges of the tank come up at a 90 degree angle so that I can attach it all along the edges of the seat for stability. A tank 40 X 9 X 4 is about 6 1/4 gallons. That should give me plenty of usable floor space, some weight forward, and adequate cruising range.

moose ... I am not looking to fill the tank completely up , it's more of a space issue. It sounds like you want to do the same ..why have one custom built ..it will probably coist more than the plastic 12 gal that 1531665anthony is talking about

The custom tank will only hang down a few inches under the seat. The plastic tank would sit on the floor catching water and whatever else gets into the boat. I like the "toe space" under the tank and the open look and storage possibilities. The tank will cost about $200.00.

moose ...that price doesn't seem to bad . You however lost me at the toe space part. are you putting the tank under the drivers seat or the front seat

I want to put it under the front seat. By toe space I mean that I can stand against the seat with my toes under the tank and seat without having to stand back from it. Just like cabinets in the kitchen.

12 gal is'nt too much gas and keep it full. the back seat is the play. use the dry deck mats it will keep the bottom from wearing because the tank will move around just a little. i'm 200lbs, fuel, battery, tackle box behind back seat use the front box for drinks and ice it really keeps ice well. the boat had good balest set up like this.
the mounted tank under the back seat would work but will toe space let you clean under tank?
