Is there a place online that has a 1980's 30hp Johnson outboard manual to look at? I had some carburetor issues and now trying to put the gas lines back on but need a diagram to get it right . :)

does anyone know the fuel line layout with the auto primer on the johnson 30? I took it all apart last weekend and now need to get the hoses correct. does either of the small hose matter on which side they go to on the primer ?

The large barb on the body of the primer solenoid assembly is fuel intake. The two small barbs on the head of the primer solenoid assembly (opposite the schrader valve) is outflow to carb. It does not matter which side you attach the two small hoses since fuel flows out via a Y-channel.

FYI - Both Marine Engine and Evinrude use the same diagrams, part numbers, and pricing. They are essentially the same "source" for OMC parts. Marine Engine is much more consumer-friendly and they have a fixed shipping rate of $7.95 for up to 5 lbs in the 48 states.

Weatherly that was a big help telling me about the fuel line.
I got the motor running again. Hopefully it will be ok. I did not find any real smoking gun issues with the carburetor.
My problem is it will run great for awhile and then start to loose power. And go slower and slower till it just can idle along.
I thought it might be junk in the carb bowl with it clogging a jet as it goes faster and the later falls out and is good again.
Maybe a heat issue? thoughts? Runs well in the driveway and i need to get it going on the lake to test it out. soon as it stops raining!

There might be a restriction in the fuel line to the carb, due to degrading of the fuel line because of "modern" gasoline (ethanol). Some hoses flake and it hasn't reach your bowl yet but it does impede the flow.

What is the age and condition of the fuel pump? If the internals are more than 10 years old, buy the fuel pump rebuild kit for $25.

Also, when you experience the cruising speed slowing symptoms, what happens if you hit the key to prime fuel to the carb via the primer solenoid assembly? Does engine speed up?

Have you done a compression and spark test on this motor?

Have you serviced the thermostat and replaced the impeller/water pump recently? A water pump kit with housing is $40.

Hmmm good ideas, The fuel line is new the pump we replaces last year and it had chucks of gasket in it. If i remember right, i was able to pump the fuel bulb to keep it going so maybe a bad pump? Maybe the pickup in the tank? More to look at just getting all these good ideas in my head for the next time I can actually look more into it. Next is to run it on the lake to see if it is still doing the problem.

I suggest you open, inspect, clean again the screen filter on the main pump and also remove, inspect, and clean the tiny strainer filter located inside the head of the primer solenoid assembly.
